Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. I am a motivated musician, with a passion for performing and a desire to pass on that passion and a love of music to students of all ages. I am a graduate of Norfolk State University, where I received a Bachelors of Music degree in Music Media with a minor in Piano. My program combined classical saxophone training with, contemporary performance, and modern media outlets. During college I was a member and section leader of the University Marching band, as well as, the principle alto saxophonist (a.k.a. first chair) for both the symphonic band and jazz ensemble. My teaching experience includes serving as a middle school band director, high school band director, middle school choir director, high school choir director, elementary school general music and choir teacher, and elementary school clarinet teacher. The youngest student I've ever taught was six years old, and I'm happy to work with children, adolescents, and adults. During undergrad in college, I also worked the music theory tutoring lab giving theory lessons to college students, so if a high school student is studying music theory, I would be able to assist with that as well. I use incentives to encourage the students to continue to progress, while getting a sense of accomplishment. I am encouraging, gentle, demonstrate techniques, and help where students struggle.
