I believe that education is something that should be enjoyable, especially music. Music is something that inspires us and makes us happy. I encourage those ideas in lessons, and I focus on teaching students to play with musicality. For each individual student, I set reasonable goals for them at the end of each lesson. I like to start where the student is. For my youngest students, we begin with the basics of counting and the music alphabet. For older students and adults, I assess prior knowledge and go from there. i like to have the students help me create up to three goals for the semester or year so that we can have something specific to aim for and measure. I have over thirty years of teaching experience. My experience dates back to my military days fresh out of high school. I began teaching on the side while in school and serving my country. Also, I serve as a church music director. I typically will start each student with preliminary lesson that allows me a chance to assess the student's current level, and knowledge base. This preliminary lesson also gives me a chance to do what I call a "method book fitting" this allows me to assess how compatible different method books are with my students personality and learning style. At the end of the first lesson, I typically will leave the student with a loaner copy of the method book I have "fitted" them with and a basic assignment for the first week. Read More

I'm a very humble and passionate instructor who believes in making lessons fun and informative. I started out playing drums at 12yrs old and then I made the transition to piano. During my time on the drums, I developed an ear for melodies and chords. I decided to take the time and practice and learn more on piano to develop my craft.
