For beginning students who are children, I like to start with Hal Leonard's Piano for Beginners. Progress will depend on the students' willingness to learn and practice as well as encouragement from their parents. For students who already have an understanding of basic fundamentals, I will assess their skill level and select music appropriate for their progression and level of play. I love to see my students evolve their ability as musicians.  In my lessons, I will let the student pick the piece that they want to play, and we will work to perfect the piece that the student chooses.  I don't believe in holding recitals in children under 10 unless the student wants to perform in a recital.  When I see a child learn, it gives me great pleasure. For my methods, it depends on the age of the student and what their ability level is. For a young student, typically children, I would have to cover the fundamentals of music while applying it to piano or flute to help them learn the notes, clefs, time signatures, key signatures, etc. For my lesson plans, it changes from student to student as each student is different and has different needs they need to focus on to better their musical experience. In 2010, I graduated from Wichita State University with a Bachelor of Music Education degree with a Vocal emphasis. Performing has always been one of my passions, and as an undergraduate, I had the opportunity to perform in six operas and one musical. I have held four master classes for five different high schools in the past. I have been judging piano and voice for 2 years now and enjoy every moment of getting the work with people.
