I've been playing music for most of my life. Growing up my whole family would all gather around the piano while my father played. Seeing how inspiring and influential music could be at a young age helped me to develop a passion for it. I am very grateful to share my passion with others through teaching. I specialize in teaching improvisational styles, such as blues, jazz, and funk. I work with my students to create a good balance of a strong technical foundation and creative jamming skills which builds both the intellectual and intuitive sides of music, and helps them become well-rounded musicians. I believe that making progress in an enjoyable way is what keeps people most motivated, and I do my best to make that happen. While students will find that their progress is influenced by their practice habits, it's also my goal to make clear what effective practice looks like, what kinds of questions they might ask to figure things out, and how to be patient with themselves. I relocated to New York  City in 1992 to major in music at Hunter College. Living in NYC I began performing live and became a studio session musician in the process  I developed songwriting and arranging skills as well as my own composing style.
