I believe in a student learning to hear music and think for themselves. Through ear training, creativity, and learning "how" music works, the goal is to get each student to not need a teacher to learn their instrument, but want a teacher so they may become their best version of it. I have been a full-time private music teacher since 1995. One of my lifes greatest pleasures has been motivating my students to succeed and helping them to see how much fun they can have in the process. I typically begin with Hal Leonard's books, levels 1-5. These are great and pair well with theory and scale techniques. I also enforce regular flashcards to memorize notes, markings, and terms. These also pair well with the books. As the students begin to grasp basic concepts, I introduce "fun" books that they may choose: for some, it is classical or pop, and for others, it is musical theatre. I taught for the next eight years part time in Texas while I was majoring in Piano Performance and Theory.
