I am currently writing doctoral dissertation titled "A Performer's Guide to the Prepared Piano of John Cage: The 1930s to 1950s." to complete DMA program by December 2018. I had the privilege of learning from great teachers including Awadagin Pratt, Joshua Russell, and Hyejeon Lee. I was also coached with Ariel Quartet for chamber music and performed in masterclasses for Aviram Reichert, John O'Conor, Min-kyung Kwon, Boaz sharon, Yong-hee Moon, Alexander Korsantia and Yoshikazu Nagai, among many others. Learning music entails much more than just playing a song. I am sure to incorporate theory, ear training, history, technique, and performance skills into the learning process. The goal is to teach the student to be a well-rounded musician and develop all of the skills needed to understand and fully enjoy the entire musical experience. During my undergrad, I have consistently taught private lessons as a part time violin instructor. After I moved to Madison, I had the chance to teach college students violin lessons and coach chamber groups in high schools through the outreach program at school. I strongly recommend students to practice every day even though it is only short amount of time. I have found if students get familiar with the instrument and learning materials, as a result, they would make good progress, feel motivate to continue to learn and enjoy playing the instruments. My piano teaching experience dates back about 5 years to when I began passing on my love of music to my own father. For beginning students I usually start with either Fundamentals of Piano Theory or just basic note reading and writing. Since each student is different and responds differently to any variety of instruction methods, it’s important for me to be flexible and find the right one for the student. For kids, keeping the material light enough to understand while being challenging and engaging is important. For adults, being aware that they have busy lives with not as much time to practice as kids is something I always take into consideration. Read More
