For beginner students, I start with the fundamentals of music and we work our way up to integrating repertoire that they will eventually be able to perform in recitals and shows! I am a very flexible teacher and I understand firsthand that to remain interested in learning music, a student needs to feel included in the choices regarding what they are working on. With that in mind, I like to use both repertoire that a student has brought in, and repertoire that I choose very carefully to suit a particular student's strengths and challenges. Read More

My musical experience began back when I was 11 years old. I was introduced to music when I was a boy and from that point on my life changed. Through the course of my career I have played many genres of music such as Classical, Jazz, Latin, Pop, Rock, Blues, and Commercial Music. I graduated from the University Cal State Long Beach back in 2009 with and emphasis in instrumental music. During my college years I studied classical string bass and performed in different instrumental and vocal jazz ensembles. My primary instrument is the bass but I also play piano and guitar. Read More

I strive to create a safe space for my students where they can dive into their material and feel empowered through learning and practicing. Some weeks a piano student might complete the material rapidly and some weeks, they may want to go slower, taking their time, therefore they excel at their own comfort level and don't feel as though there is a race. With voice, I prefer to let the student pick songs that they enjoy singing and speak to their own heart. Read More

I believe one can grow as a musician at any age, expertise, and understanding. I do use printed method books for my students to guide them along the process (Hal Leonard, Rubank, Taffanael and Gaubert Bernstein to name a few) for the child, methods and scales will be assigned to teach proper technique and positioning. For the adult, depending on their interests, different types of reading music material will be introduced. Read More

I generally like to have students use a music curriculum book in addition to playing songs they enjoy.I recently created a custom music lesson book for guitar, called Suncho School of Music Guitar Method. This book reflects my unique teaching style, and I went out of my way to make it fun and relatable for kids, teens, and adults alike. I always find out what the student is interested in and what motivates him or her. Read More

I teach combination of the Suzuki method and the Hungarian style (stressing the natural, comfortable, painless, tension free method). For young students, the Suzuki method is great, since the repertoire is all fun! Also the CD that comes with every level is vital! Children enjoy and benefit from that. I am an audiophile, so I can set up students with a quality hifi system on the cheap - this is so vital in Suzuki method, as he stated in his book, Nurtured With Love. Read More
Instruments: Piano Cello
If teaching the 'cello, I like to use the instruction book that I learned from which is Samuel Applebaum's Beginning Strings book and around this I will introduce more international music, often in duet form to help with intonation. After the student develops good basic technique, then sonatas and concerti are gradually introduced. If teaching the piano, then I make sure that Dozen a Day for the beginners is incorporated with any of the beginning/intermediate books such as John Thompson's, Edna Mae Burnam's or Frances Clark's methods and for more advanced piano students the Hanon exercises are included along with the standard Classical repertoire.
