 I implement materials of my own design mixed with songs of the students choosong and tastes, and typically have them up and playing a song or two that they like in a couple of lessons.  All ages, styles, and expereince levels are welcome. For reading,  I like to use a combination of notation, tabs and chord diagrams.  And while I dont absolutely insist that the student learn to read notation, I do strongly encourage it. Read More

I began playing piano at 3 years old. I started playing trumpet at 9 years old joining various community orchestras, drum and bugle corps, grammer/highschool bands. When I was 14 or so I started playing string instruments including the guitar and bass guitar, moved to Boston in my early twenties and studied at Berkeley College of Music . In 1990 I relocated to Europe where I performed and taught in various cities including Paris,Berlin and Amsterdam..By the turn of the century I was back in New York City living on the lower East side where I heard lots of afro-cuban music as well as more experimental forms.. My teaching style is knowledgeable, but also very fun and laid back. I will always go at the students pace, whether it is fast or slow. I will teach students basics in sight reading, and the best way to practice a piece of music. I will let the student know what they have been doing well and what they need to work on. If they are ever having trouble with a technique or piece of music, I will be sure to give that issue extra attention and figure out why the student is having difficulties. Read More
