In middle school, I began performing and teaching music during the summers at Vacation Bible School for children ages 3-10. Throughout high school, as a member of a variety of bands, I performed at a wide array of venues around New England. During this time, I ventured into song writing and musical arrangement. I also spent some time giving private trombone, bass, and guitar lessons in high school. My approach to teaching kids has always emphasized finding joy in the instrument. I will always start with the a good foundation of a solid understanding of music fundamentals and work with the kids at a pace that allows them to grow yet really enjoy what they are doing. My teaching experience began while attending college and has been on and off with my performing schedule but I believe the performance has help me focused on teaching from real-world experience. I therefore dont like to spend a lot of time during lessons on topics a student may never use. This also helps the student hold interest in their lessons.
