I make it a point to individualize my lesson plans for each student and cater to their unique needs. As a general starting place, however, I typically start with Trevor Wye's Beginner's Book for the Flute: Part 1 for my novice students. Additionally, I introduce the 12 major scales and arpeggios- which we continue to study and build on throughout our lessons. For beginning students, we focus on elemental technique for the instrument and general music theory using easy books and methods provided by the teacher. For intermediate students, we focus on developing technique with etudes and technique books provided by the teacher, with light repertoire appropriate for each student. For advanced students, we keep developing more advanced techniques with advanced technique and etude books provided by the teacher and work on more intricate repertoire appropriate for each student. I teach according to each students learning ability and I also love to challenge my students to help with their daily practice time. Depending on the level of advancement , we will determine the materials that is needed for each lesson. If its a beginner they will start on the basic learnings and fundamentals of music to help them better understand the lesson. I started teaching in 2009 in Mississippi. I taught 6th grade band (beginner), 7th grade band, and high school. I taught in Mississippi for 5 years and just recently moved to Tennessee. While teaching, I've given private lessons to some of my students after school and to some students who did not attend my school. I always encourage doing a recital, entering competitions, and continuing on to college playing their instrument. I love motivating students and challenging them to be the best and nothing less.
