My teaching style is one of flexibility, but still with expectations. I cater specifically to the needs of the student, and choose repertoire and exercises that will fit with their needs. I encourage positive self-assessments and self talk, and strongly believe that progress is based on collaborative efforts of the student and teacher. For students of any level, it is useful to have a combination of repertoire that is more challenging, and pushes my students to see beyond their current skill level, as well as repertoire that allows them to enjoy the expression that is possible with their current skill level.
