Michael C

Instruments:

Ever since I was a kid, I had a passion for mentoring and tutoring.  Nothing makes me feel as fulfilled as a long day of teaching, having fun with my students and helping them make progress both in their musical studies and development as people.  As a performer, my career encompasses anything from classical and jazz concerts to musical theater productions and studio recording sessions.  I am constantly looking for new ways to contribute to my craft and find new outlets for performing.  In 2010, I founded a music publishing company, which provides sheet music and recordings for professional saxophonists and advanced students.

More Information About Flute Lessons

For a new flutist, Musika recommends renting initially and buying an instrument later on if the student has demonstrated some commitment. Reliable brands include Yamaha, Armstrong, and Gemeinhardt. More advanced players should consider a flute with open hole keys and a B foot joint. Very young players can use a curved headjoint to assist playing.
Taking flute lessons in your home offers a great way to master your skills on the instrument without ever leaving your home! Many students and parents find this very convenient as there is no additional time for travel.
Each lesson is personalized to the student. The teacher will concentrate on the needs and goals of the individual. However, general topics will be covered, such as: how to clean, put together, and hold the flute, how to blow correctly into the instrument to develop a nice tone in all registers, how to finger the notes, slurring and tongueing, and how to read music!
Flute can be a wonderful instrument for older students, especially those who have escaped, or already dealt with, the plight of braces! Of the woodwinds, the flute can be a relatively easy instrument for beginners, and an extremely satisfying instrument to study at any age.
We recommend beginning flute lessons around age 7 or 8 - most school music programs usually begin flute students in the 3rd grade. The student needs to be big enough to be able to appropriately hold the instrument, including having the minimum hand/finger length to reach the flute keys/holes comfortably, and have the lung capacity to play properly without running out of breath.
