I deploy a range of methods to ensure my students can play in a multitude of environments if they so choose. For instance, I always teach my students how to read, not only because it makes you a better musician and trains your brain how to think differently about music, but because it enables you to be able to play with groups that require a certain level of reading such as a pit band for a musical, an orchestra, a jazz band, choral gigs, etc. Read More
Instruments: Drums, Mallet Percussion, Orchestral Percussion, Conga, Djembe
My instructional method does not lean toward one method book for instruction. There is however a useful combination of selected literature, excerpts, solos, exercises and play alongs in addition to anything the student wants or has to work on. I teach technique and fundamentals that are applicable to all styles, not just one particular style. I'm teaching you to play music. Not a collection of beats and fills. Standards are met and individual goals are not ignored. Read More

I worked for Eddie Van Halen for five years in the 1990's in the Beverly Hills area of Los Angeles, and was instrumental in providing help with development of the Peavey Wolfgang and Wolfgang Special Guitar by providing feedback on the prototypes Eddie was designing at the time. I learned a lot from Eddie and his brother Alex about music and the music industry. (All you have to do is pay attention!) Additionally, I have studied recording studio techniques and production with award-winning Canadian music Producer Allister Bradley. Read More

I began teaching private lessons when I was in college and just beginning to gain the playing experience that would lead to my 20+ years as a profesional drummer. I continued to teach sporadically during my time with the Goo Goo Dolls. Over the past year I have concentrated more on teaching than I had before, and I have found it to be a very fulfilling experience to see the excitement that students show when learning. Read More

My method of teaching involves researching a wide range of resources in order to find what is best for the student at the current stage in his or her development. Using my own knowledge, I am able to effectively adapt and improve these resources so as to be accessible to the student. For bass students, I might use Hal Leonard's Bass Method, book one. For young beginning guitar students, I recommend The Beginning Guitarist's Book by Tom Hess. Read More
