Every student learns a different way and I always take the first lesson to evaluate what the student is passionate about. Some students want to get straight to playing songs and some want to learn sheet music first. I am comfortable with starting anyway they need. If the student starts to get bored after a few lessons I try and bring in new toys related to the instrument such as a new kind of cymbal or a slide guitar to try and spark some inspiration again! My teaching method is a give-and-take. The more the student is able to put into the lessons the more I will be able to help them out. We will focus on learning some fundamental concepts and learning songs from artists the student loves. Each week the student will be assigned something to work on depending on their skills and then there will be a check in the next week to see how they did and how much or how little they worked on that task. I have a very unique teaching style in the sense that it is derived from playing in a professional rock band. I'm very versatile and teach many styles as well. I believe in attaining a level of tightness and professionalism through basic fundamentals. I also believe that the process should be fun and gratifying. I look forward to showing what I have to offer and helping you progress and become the best drummer you can possibly be! Read More

I have been a music lover ever since I can remember. Playing music has been one of the greatest gifts I have ever received, and I love sharing that gift with my students. I graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with a Bachelor of Music Education degree and from University of North Texas with a Master of Music in Percussion Performance. I have played a wide variety of styles from classical, to rock, to Caribbean steel pan, and I draw from all of my experiences to help students realize their goals regardless of the styles they are interested in. As I first approach a new student, my first question to them is "why drums?". From that response I have a better idea of where this student is most comfortable for playing. Their genre of musical listening is a strong consideration of the styles they would enjoy learning. By finding their strong points of playing building an individual curriculum for that student gives them a better opportunity to become a player to the best of their abilities. Read More
