I have been playing guitar since 2004, with styles ranging from Punk and Metal to Jazz and R&B. I've had the opportunity to work in a number of professional studios, as both a producer/engineer and session player. I am very goal oriented in teaching. I use a similar methodology as learning a language. I prefer the Hal Leonard books for beginning students. Some of the major aspects I like to focus on are three areas being 1) Rudiments, Scales, and Chords, 2) Educational books, 3) favorite song repertoire. For students younger than 15, I recommend only 30 minutes unless students are more experienced and very engaged in their instrument. For beginning students, I start with getting comfortable holding the drum sticks and understanding how to properly strike the drumhead. Students will be introduced to basic notes and rhythms that will help them along the way. Beginning students start on drum pads and progressively move towards actual drums.
