My teaching style will be The Bob Ross approach. If the student doesn't feel relaxed, or isn't having fun, then I would have failed as an instructor. I will always remind my students that talent is just passion met with dedication. I will break down the method to the simplest step, then we will repeat that step until that becomes second nature. My approach is focused very much on performance, technicalities, and theory. I believe it is very important for the student to understand how these aspects of playing coincide with each other, and how they are equally essential to music playing. Before giving a student a piece of music to play, I will always play it befoehand and dissect the song into portions that I feel need special attention. I encourage playing with other musicians, and always try to teach the art ofimprovisation, so that the students can learn to play not only by themselves, but with other musicians, using the musicial understanding that it takes to improvise. With new students taking their 1st lesson, I, with the student, set a realistic long term goal for the year. We then make short term goals to as the steps to take to meet this long term goal. After that I am able to plan my lessons with each student more accurately so that the time per lesson is fully utilized.
