My teaching style is focussed very much on what the student wishes to learn. Having a set guide pf progression is necessary but not when forced upon. My style involves exploring music together, understanding the thought process behind different pieces of music and applying concepts in fun innovative ways. I have also designed many musical games that are fun and help students remember things better. I like too see where the study is playing-wise and design a custom learning plan for the student and his/her goals and help them reach their goals quicker with a planned practice schedule. I also start students off with reading which helps them better understand rhythm and being able to read music is a huge plus in todays music world. For beginners, I will start with no sticks in the hands at all! Just tapping on your legs with your hands and getting all of the limbs to work together is hard enough! Then we will put sticks in your hands and learn technique, and finally introduce reading music. One step at a time is the best as to not overwhelm the student. I have taught the drums in a variety of settings for 15 years. In Australia I worked for the South Australian Government in the Instrumental Music Service for 3 years. I provided group drum lessons to students ranging from elementary to senior high school age with a total of 40 lessons each week, at 10 different schools to over 100 students!
