I'm not overly harsh or judgmental but instead I try to make each lesson a true learning experience where there's no pressure and the student is free to make mistakes (even encouraged to take risk and make mistakes) in pursuit of their passion of music. My first job out of college was teaching at a charter school where I saw all the students in the school for 9 week periods. We established an after school band where private lessons were the main form of growth. In my next job, I taught students from beginning, in sixth grade, through their senior year of high school.
