I have been teaching music for almost a decade. I have taught everything from vocal and instrumental music to general music and music theory classes, both in group settings and 1-on-1. Although I greatly enjoy leading vocal and instrumental ensembles, both large and small, I love teaching private lessons because I can tailor each lesson to the individual student's needs. For beginners, I like to start with the Rubank method books, which progress pretty rapidly. I also focus on tone production and scales as we move along at the level of the individual student. I gauge the speed at which we move based on the student in question, and prepare a practice routine for each student based on how much time they have to practice each day. For an intermediate to advanced student, I work with more the more advanced Rubank method books, and suggest solo literature appropriate for them to prepare. Read More

For beginners, I focus on teaching proper fundamentals for embouchure, air, hand position, and articulation. I use various teaching tools such as Essential Elements or whatever book your child's school district requires. I believe teaching music literacy is very important. The goal the first year is to be able to read a majority of the notes and rhythms on their instrument while being able to play at least 7 major scales and a two octave chromatic scale. Read More
