I love teaching students privately one on one. My youngest student was 4; a Piano student. She was from a Russian family and didn’t speak a word of English. Teaching her was a joint effort between myself and the girl’s mother who did speak English; a very interesting experience. My oldest student was 86; a Guitar student. He had studied previously with another instructor and loved to play. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. It was a great honor. Late into highschool I was accepted at the DCI CADETS for 3rd trumpet part. This is the second best drum corp (at the time) in the world out of over a dozen different division 1 corps. For my piano students, I teach them on a keyboard to get them familiarized with the layout of the piano. I teach proper fingerings, scales, and most importantly music theory. For my flute, clarinet, and saxophone students I work out of appropriate etude books for their performance level. I also teach jazz improvisation.
