Although my formal education is in the sciences, I am a passionate violinist/fiddler who loves sharing my love of music and theater through performance and working with students. My teaching method will be largely based on what you want to accomplish as a musician. My students taking the classical route will become familiar with the Suzuki Method books. I like to supplement this with etudes, folk tunes, and something of personal interest to you (pop music, world music, video game, etc.) If you are more interested in a fiddle/bluegrass approach, I will start you on the O'Connor Method books for violin/viola. For younger students, I will be using Suzuki Cello School to guide instruction. When students have successfully completed the Suzuki books, I will introduce them to pieces that would be suitable for a recital performance. For adults, I will base instruction off of Suzuki but also find material that will keep the learning process fun and enjoyable. That can seem a difficult goal for students, so each lesson targets a realistic goal for practice techniques and improvement.
