My current formal teaching experience came about in college. I gave several acoustic guitar lessons to some beginner guitarists in Chapel Hill. However, the majority of my instruction experience has come about more informally. As a songwriter, composer, and bandleader in multiple Chapel Hill-based music acts, I have spent much time teaching other musicians the best ways to play certain pieces of music. My teaching experience dates back to 1990, when, while homeschooling my children, I taught drums and guitar as part of their curriculum. Since then I have given lessons on a part time basis. Through my experience, I have become skillful in identifying a student's strengths, weaknesses and learning style. My focus is on challenging students at their current skill level while encouraging them and making the process of learning fun. I work both as a freelance musician and bass instructor. I graduated from Millikin University in 2012 with a degree in Commercial Bass Performance. After I graduated I worked with a wide range of musical groups. I have performed in showbands, latin groups,musicals, jazz quartets, neo soul groups, and have even played contrabass in guitar ensembles. I would say one of the greater experiences I have had as a musician was when I made an album with the Millikin University Latin Jazz Project, which won Downbeat Magazine's 36th annual Student Music Award for the category of Undergraduate College Outstanding Performance.  Read More
