For all students initially, I like to have them bring me the repertoire they want to sing. Because I believe that healthy singing comes from the heart, I want my students to sing the music that brings them joy. While there is place for assigned repertoire at a certain point in time, it's important for a student to approach singing with the healthiest mindset possible. In the first few lessons, I may not even touch repertoire if I feel that the student needs more work on easing up their instrument and discovering the sensations that work the best for them. I love to get to know my students and use different books, songs, techniques, to really reach their level and motivation.
