2006 - University of Evansville Music Scholarship
Teaching music is my life's passion. I followed that passion to earning a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Evansville in 2011. Since then I have been teaching students of all ages and levels. Since earning my degree I have performed on stages across the country in pit orchestras, bands, choirs, opera performances and as a solo artist on various instruments including the voice. I am an active musician and am constantly exploring new music to teach and share with my students.
After graduating I began teaching lessons. Over the past 7 years I have taught students of all ages and ability levels. I customize all of my lessons to the needs of my students. If students have a particular interest I do my utmost to incorporate it into their lessons. By taking a mix of new music, new concepts, and some familiar ideas and interests of each of my students I create a lesson that will inspire my students to connect with their music. In a mix of classical and modern music each student builds their repertoire in order to become a versatile musician, to grow in their techniques and abilities, and incorporate their own interests into their music lessons.
Due to lessons being customized for each student various method materials will be used including: method books, theory books, performance books, and my own materials that are created to fit the students' needs. After a level assessment during the first lesson music, including books, practice materials, and solos will be chosen to meet that level and be age appropriate. Lesson pacing will be set at an appropriate rate so that older students will be taught at a faster rate than a young beginner so that each student is given the best experience possible while still having fun!
As a teacher it has always been my goal to inspire my students to connect with music in a meaningful way. I do this by teaching at each students' own pace and setting acheivable goals along the way to encourage progress and to create an atmosphere where my students are able to succeed. There is no greater joy that seeing a student take on a challenge and conquer it. It is that positive feeling of success that motivates my students to continue taking lessons and learning which is amazing to see.
