I am a current student at Ball State University studying to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in Instrumental/General Music Education with an add-on in Vocal Education. I am passionate about teaching music and helping others reach their full potential on whatever instruments they want to play. There are several different method books that I like to use with my students based on age, knowledge/experience, and of course if the method book they use is something they will enjoy; it's very difficult if a student doesn't like the book they're using so I try to give them options. For beginners, I like to use John Thompson's Easiest Piano Course or the Schuam method books. For additional practice and work, I like to use Schaum's Fingerpower and have the student write out the notes then recite them aloud while playing the exercise. Read More

My method is to build a solid repertoire list in whatever style of music the student prefers, and then work to a clear understanding of the characteristics necessary to sing in that style. I love having conversation with students to get to know them and find ways the music can relate to them. It also helps me make my teaching more relatable to them. I try to give all my students at least one piece of classical music to broaden their horizons and also to use the techniques they are learning in a different way. Read More

As a teacher it has always been my goal to inspire my students to connect with music in a meaningful way. I do this by teaching at each students' own pace and setting acheivable goals along the way to encourage progress and to create an atmosphere where my students are able to succeed. There is no greater joy that seeing a student take on a challenge and conquer it.
