My teaching practices include "say it, sing it, move it, play it" - in simple terms. This technique of hearing and feeling the music before we play or sing will help students learn to better visualize or audiate the music before performance. I often have my students sight-read to stretch their rhythm reading skills, and I give rhythm exercises for practice and warm-ups. If you are part of a school band program, we will work in your method book of choice. Read More

I was in choir and band all throughout middle/high school and went to college unsure if I wanted to focus on music or theatre. I was very active in both departments and continued to take private piano and voice lessons but theatre won out and my primary focus changed to scenic painting. I began teaching private voice students while I was still working on my Masters degree. I was the Concert Choir section leader in College and found leadership and spreading my love for music to be exhilarating! I encourage all of my students to set a reasonable practice schedule to get themselves into the habit of practicing and really reaching their full potential as a student. I accept recreational students as well as students who are looking towards a career in music in the future. Read More

For many people, singing is all about having the confidence to try. I encourage all my students to sing out and not be afraid to make mistakes. I emphasize strengths and am always quick to point out the smallest of victories. Learning to sing is about consistency and knowing you're a work in progress. Even the most accomplished of singers are still learning and growing. I think the best sound comes from a relaxed and comfortable body, which is why I incorporate work on posture and movement to make sure you are uninhibited by body tension or stiffness. Read More

Since each student learns differently, I utilize a variety of teaching methods. Some students are auditory learners. Some students are visual learners. Some students learn better when several method books are used in correlation with each other. No matter what instrument I am teaching to a student, due to my years of experience, I have an extensive library of materials, methods, and literature that I can implement into my lessons. Read More
