I am a professional musician and teacher. I graduated from CSU in 2014 and received my degree in music education, certification in private lessons, and certification in composition. Since graduating CSU I've performed as the Principal Violist of the Parker Symphony for 4 years, been an active member of a string quartet, played in multiple bands, and have also played with members of the band Devotchka. For beginning students on violin we start with many techniques found in the Suzuki method. From there, we jump into different styles of music while still focusing on developing solid technical foundations for the student. Once we move into standard repertoire the lessons begin to change based on what the student needs. I am a firm believer in consistent practice. I would much rather have a student who practices daily for 15 minutes then a student who does not practice except for the day before their lesson for two hours. Read More

I believe that no two students are alike. Therefore no single method will produce the best results, if applied blindly. I attempt to identify the strengths of the individual and nurture them to build a satisfactory and most importantly satisfying foundation, from which we can build a successful long term practice. My approach to music and teaching is organic. I see commonalities of expression in nature and music. For young beginners, I use a lot of the Suzuki Method of teaching. Music games, pitch recognition and rhythms are all introduced as games during the lessons. My adults study from a combination of pieces, exercises, scales and duets. I think understanding the pieces you are playing is important so students learn how to recognize key signatures and time signatures. I have many students participate in school orchestra and youth orchestra programs so students are coached on how to prepare, how to audition and learn how to cope with nerves. Read More
