As a teacher I offer a common sense approach to teachingall instrumentsto students of all ages. For students who are new to playing; I focus first on the mechanics of playing,getting their mind to respond to what the body to best of their ability. Along the way they learn to read and understand written music, and just as important, how to play with and forother musicians. I have two different tracts for students: the first is the tract for students who want to potentially have a career in playing violin and the second is the tract for students who just want to play violin as a hobby. For students in the first tract, I find out what their natural tendencies are and assign them scales and etudes which complement and challenge their tendencies. My teaching experience spans 6 years. I've taught all ages, so I'm comfortable with everybodys learning pace. In college I studied under the Latin Grammy award winning La Catrina Quartet, and I hope to pass down the knowledge I gain from that experience to my students. With my students, I take them step by step through were they are as a musician, to were they need to be. Providing the right environment, a good comunication and engament wtih the student is fundamental in order to give the student the chance to express himself/herself through music, feel confident and proud of his/her achievement. My goal is for students to love playing their instrument so much after every lesson that they are motivated to keep working on concepts outside of their lesson time. Thus far, all of my private lesson students practice outside of their lessons, and I hope to keep it that way! I believe that all students are capable of learning music regardless of preconceived notions about talent level. I understand that people have busy schedules, but I expect them to make some time to practice outside of lessons even if it is only for 10 or 20 minutes per day. Read More
