While I do like to use method books and curriculum such as Hal Leonard's Essential Elements for Strings and Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course, I also recognize that every student is unique. Always start where the student is, and take them from there. Always encourage and inspire students to be better than yesterday. Progress, no matter the amount, is progress. Take your own pace. If you have a specific deadline, for example a college audition, you will have to commit to practicing more than usual and we will create a plan of action. Also, I do write letters of recommendation. Beginner students typically start with Essential Elements. Once the basic fundamentals are grasped, the student will be introduced to repertoire in Suzuki. Intermediate and advanced students will be introduced to solo repertoire that may include concertos, sonatas, and etudes. Scales will be an essential part of practice. I was encouraged to tutor other classmates and friends who were having difficulty on the violin, as well as viola.
