I adjust my teaching style to compliment each student individually. My goal is for each student to enjoy playing their instrument, but I believe that the personal improvement of each student is vital for their continued interest and passion. I take it upon myself to make sure that my teaching is resulting in personal enjoyment and improvement! I also believe that studying a musical instrument is useful for developing things like problem solving skills, perseverance, building good habits, having a good work ethic, and being responsible. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Belwin Course for Strings, String Builder. Once the student has progressed to have a knowledge of the fundamentals, I begin to introduce solo repertoire from the Suzuki method. I continue hand-in-hand the String Builder and Suzuki methods. I also have group classes where students learn to play as an ensemble, such as duets quartets, and string ensembles/orchestra. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons interesting and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More

A St. Louis native, I have been studying the violin/viola since I was 9 years old. I am an enthusiastic and caring instructor who enjoys working with students and watching them grow. Currently I am in my senior year at UMSL, pursuing a bachelor's degree in Music Education. I currently serve as the principal viola in my school's orchestra, the UMSL Symphony Orchestra. In addition to music, I am also studying math and intend to become certified to teach both math and music! Read More

For beginning students, children and adults, I start out with my own material that I have created over the past five years. I use it to start technique, note reading, and rhythm. Once the student completes the material, I move them to Suzuki books, etudes, and other pieces. I like to get student input when choosing music. I believe that the student will be more engaged in the lessons and practice when they are playing something that they enjoy. Read More
