For students who are already in an instrumental program through school, I will start with whatever method book they are using at school, and branch off from there. Depending on the instrument, I will bring in another method book specific to that instrument book and we will also use some sort of etude book. Ping is a violist living and performing in Cincinnati, OH. She began her career in Taiwan as a member of a string quartet, choir and orchestra. She was a prize winner on a local radio competition as a string quartet member and performed frequently at National Concert Halls. I try to introduce my students to different styles and genres of music. Their repertoire ranges from dances and songs to variations, concertos and sonatas. In order to be able to play such an array of genres, one requires what I like to call a "laboratory of skills".
