This past summer I was selected as one of 18 young artists for the Up North Vocal Institute, a highly selective opera performance program with applicants all around the world. I have also played trumpet for the Marching Band, Big Band, Baroque Ensemble, and was the principal trumpet of the Moravian College Community Orchestra. I began teaching lessons when I was in college five years ago, and have continued teaching in New Jersey. I do not yet have a home studio, but am willing to go straight to the student as well as conduct online lessons. I taught elementary and middle school music in the Oakland Public School District, and taught elementary general music at Sporting Hill Elementary School. For beginner students in fourth grade or above, I like to work with the method book that their school district uses. Most districts use Essential Elements from Hal Leonard or Standards of Excellence. If the student is also a beginner at reading music, we will focus on music fundamentals and basic theory to build their notation reading skills. I like to integrate songs the students choose, whether it be from a movie or a pop song, to not only reinforce their techniques, but to get the student excited about practicing and performing music. Everyone learns differently, So I can't say that i have a certain teaching style. I change my style to match the students needs. Growing up with a learning disability I learned multiple ways to over come it and love to see my accomplishments show through my students. After the first couple of lessons, I will set goals with the student, and their parent (if the student is a child.) Being able to acknowledge that a goal has been met allows the student to have a desire to continue with the instrument they are learning. Passing goals and allows the student eager to learn. By finding out what the student wants to learn, I can successfully tailor my instruction to the student's need and wants. Read More
