I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 2011, I graduated fromSouthern University and AM Collegewith a Bachelor of Music degree in Trumpet Performance/Music Education. Having both degrees has enhanced my teaching studio for I can give the best of both cases to my students either going for education or performance. I believe in the philosophy of and empty cup. My lessons are not built for me to tell the student what to do, but rather learn how they learn and research the best practices for reaching that student. There is no "cookie cutter" method that works for all students, because everyone learns and comprehends a little bit differently. I remain sensitive to that and patient with my students. Now fast-forward to March 2021, I was hired by Presidio ISD to teach middle school band. From then until May 2022, I got to teach middle school band along with choir and mariachi. I also occasionally helped at the local high school. What I have learned while teaching middle school, especially with beginners, is that playing along can be helpful initially. I usually ask several questions first, about your goals in participating with music. I want to encourage friendly competition, to have fun and to decide how competitive you may choose to be later. Most people don't want to be super competitive, but many are talented to do so. Most people are in music for the overall enjoyment of it, and some realize friendly competition is a win-win. I teach piano classically by reading music and patterns. As we progress, sometimes the student gets disinterested. At that point, I introduce the chord method as well as the number system- having them play certain progressions as I prompt them to play.
