I am a currently attending SJSU for my Music Education degree. My main instrument is trombone, but I also teach beginning piano among other instruments. My passion on top of teaching is also advocating for music and groups who may not have access. Read More

For students learning their first instrument and learning how to read music, I like to spend the majority of the time buzzing on the mouthpiece, breathing, as well as studying and playing easy warm ups such as Remingtons. This way students can build their fundamentals for their instrument at the same time they are developing better reading skills. For more advanced beginners I have them read easy etudes to develop their reading and overall musicianship. Read More

After graduating, I moved to Southern California with the prospects of teaching and seeking other opportunities in music. I began teaching students in high school when there was a need that a student in the band needed some instruction. My second stint at teaching came in 2009 to 2012 when I taught Middle School and High school students from complete beginners to experienced players. My approach to teaching music is synthesis of all the teachers methodologies I have encountered as well as pedagogy courses I have encountered in my university career. Read More

My teaching style is very much praxial and based off of skill reinforcement. For any instrument, I will incorporate the Kodaly method (solfege) of musicianship into the curriculum. For me, my goal is to teach the student how to learn for themselves. I focus on practice techniques, assessment of tone, sound, rhythms, pitches, etc. Rather than spoon feed all of the answers to the students, I wish to encourage each musician to develop their own critical mind towards the art that they create.
