My wonderful mother started me in piano lessons when I was 5 years old. She never dreamed that I would go on to get a degree in music during those first years of lessons. I studied piano under Dr. John Cobb, who holds a Doctorate in Piano Performance from Julliard. I continued piano lessons for 13 years, but when I started college, I decided to major in trumpet. Most teachers use a Hal Leonard beginning book. Essential Elements (EE) is popular, as well as Accent on Achievement. I'll be using EE for beginners. I drill ear training, and will have the student memorize simple songs to beginning not only increasing their repertoire, but a fun way of practicing scales. I've been teaching since about my sophomore year in college, So that puts me at approximately 4 years at this. I have taught private lessons, entire sections and entire ensembles. Ensembles that I have taught have gone on to win many awards, I've even had a few of my private students make it to their district bands.   My teaching career began in college. I taught trombone lessons and was an instructor for the Hampton University Band Camp. In 2009 I became a graduate assistant at Central Michigan University. I also taught at an elementary school while I was in graduate school. After college I moved to North Carolina and became a band director on the middle school and high school level. My strongest skill is composition and arranging.  My works have been played on the middle school, high school, collegiate, and professional level.  This skill set includes jazz, popular music, classical, gospel, small ensembles, and large ensembles.
