At this point in time I've been blessed with the opportunities to teach in both private one-on-one tutoring settings as well as with large groups of children through volunteering, student teaching and substitute teaching. It was through the summation of these experiences that I predicted- and have ultimately discovered- that I love being a music educator. The height of what fulfills me about being a music educator is the essence of the work: Exploration and nurturing for both the student and the teacher. Read More

Instruments: Cello

My first teaching experience actually begins in my teens when I would teach my little brothers how to play the cello. This has given me important experience in teaching young children from the age as young as 4 years old. From there on I have taught other children and some adults totaling 3 years of total teaching experience. I also have experience in musicianship skills that are important to developing good playing for any beginner and even advanced players. Read More

Younger/beginner students will interact with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements and some basic Suzuki training. Intermediate to advanced players will be assigned repertory that is a balance of healthy and challenging based on their strengths and weaknesses. All levels of students will interact with Jensen/Chung's CelloMind, scales, and other fundamental technical exercises. Depending on the context, all students will interact with music theory concepts and music history. Some light physics will also be integrated (don't be scared of it!). Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Belwin Course for Strings, String Builder. Once the student has progressed to have a knowledge of the fundamentals, I begin to introduce solo repertoire from the Suzuki method. I continue hand-in-hand the String Builder and Suzuki methods. I also have group classes where students learn to play as an ensemble, such as duets quartets, and string ensembles/orchestra. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons interesting and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More

I am a committed educator, passionate about sharing the cello with anyone and everyone who wants to learn! I received my Bachelors of Music in Cello Performance from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester New York in 2015. After graduating, I moved to Chicago Illinois, where I have enjoyed an active teaching, performing, recording and touring schedule. In addition to my classical pursuits, I am an avid fan of cross-genre collaborations and have performed, recorded and toured with a variety of Chicago-area bands, some of which include: Rebecca Rego and the Trainmen, Poor Calvin, Fuzzy Poser, Audrey Q, Brian McGrath and The Phantom Broadcast.
