For beginner/intermediate students I use the Essential Elements method plus Suzuki when they reach a higher level of playing. My advanced students can expect to play etudes from the Schroeder book as well as Popper when they get to that level. I am open to teaching repertoire that the student is interested in, as long as the level isn't too far beyond their reach. For adults, we mostly stick to Suzuki and Essential Elements, but I have found that incorporating songs they are familiar with is helpful in their education. Read More

I've been studying cello for 16 years and have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Drake University. I am also on the substitute list in the Des Moines Symphony cello section as well as the Sioux City Symphony cello section. I enjoy teaching cello lessons because I can help students become better while also giving them a greater appreciation of music. Younger/beginner students will interact with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements and some basic Suzuki training. Intermediate to advanced players will be assigned repertory that is a balance of healthy and challenging based on their strengths and weaknesses. All levels of students will interact with Jensen/Chung's CelloMind, scales, and other fundamental technical exercises.
