I utilizes Australia's Aboriginal 8 Ways Pedagogy in lessons: story sharing, non-linear (no one learns the same thing at the same place), non-verbal (hands-on), land links (take it outside), deconstruct/reconstruct (look at overall concept before breaking it into steps), symbols images, learning maps (written or draw connections showing what you have learned and what you struggle with), and community links (sharing music with others). I ask to keep track ofwhat you worked on, how it felt, how much time you spent on each subject, questions or interests it brought up, and goals you wish to strive for. This is a routine that I've found very helpfull for musicians of all ages and expeience levels. I typically will start students with excercises of my own creation. I then will add either Esssential Elements, or Rubanks Elelmentary Method depending on the learning style of the student. we will play duets from Amsdens Celebrated Practice Duets, or Selected Duests for trombone vol. 1 or 2 by H. Voxman. If students are interested in jazz, we will practice with How to Play Jazz and Improvise by Jamey Abersold and play chord changes using irealpro. Read More
