For three years I was a camp counselor in the La Honda Music Camp (Hayward, CA). As a counselor, I looked after 10-12 middle school-aged girls, oversaw brass sectionals, coached trombone, and assisted in the junior wind ensemble. In high school I used to coach my classmates in the trombone section. In my grad school years I began to teach beginning piano and trombone. My hope when teaching music is that the kids have a lot of fun learning their instrument, so I always encourage them to learn songs they'd like to sing/play along to. Read More

I create relevant individualized lessons plans based on my students' interests and learning goals, experience and abilities. Students or a guardian will initially be given a questionnaire to determine the current level of student knowledge and skills. I have been teaching music for 8 years now. My experience includes wind ensembles, jazz orchestras, jazz combos, and chamber groups. I currently hold a position at Chabot Community as the Low Brass Instructor and Jazz Trombone Instructor. I teach all ages ranging from elementary school all the way up to the collegiate level. I currently work for notable organizations such as the Stanford Jazz Workshop where I mentor various junior high to high school aged students who are part of an all-star auction based ensemble. Every student is different, so I do my best to nurture musical growth and development at a pace that is feasible for each student as an individual. No two lesson plans are identical. Based on how confident the student feels with the prospect of moving onto the next level in their studies, I begin to assign goals for the next lesson. I am motivated to teach students all aspects of music. Each lesson focuses on scales and exercises, performance pieces, and musical creation. I graduated from St. Mary's college in 2006 with a BA of performing arts. I am currently playing with the Walnut Creek Concert Band and The Community Womens Orchestra.
