I am a very active musician that has an innate love of teaching. I started playing the clarinet at age 10 and quickly gained interest in playing more than just one instrument. Fast forward to high school, where I am playing Tuba in the marching band, clarinet in the concert band, and saxophone in the jazz band; this is where I know I wanted to share my passion for others. I teach more than 35 years now. It is a great experience combined of mostly private lessons and classroom experience. I am trying to motivate my students according to their interests and also buy using a worldly music knowledge that we inherited form generations of musicians who ever lived on Earth. During my undergraduate career at Western Connecticut State University I studied and appeared with many great performing artists including the late Skitch Henderson, Ksenia Nosikova, William Braun, and composer Joseph Schwantner. I find it is incredibly important to spend the time early on making sure your technique and form is sound and strong. This will start you off with a solid foundation that will help you play what ever musical styles you wish. I like to start students off with simple scales and melodies that will build up your dexterity, muscle memory and general ability to play the instrument. Once you can work your way around the instrument you can start learning more lessons about reading music, ear training and improvisation. Read More

Ultimately students must really enjoy what they are doing to be successful in the long term. I try to discern the student's strengths and build on those. A sense of accomplishment and progress needs to be maintained with mostly positive feedback and encouragement to strive to be better. The students interests must be taken into consideration, whatever they may be while pushing to broaden their interests and understand the common elements in all kinds of music. Read More
