Music has been a passion of mine from age 6. I got my start playing the piano with friends trying to figure out the music from Super Mario 64. Not a day has gone by since then that I haven't picked up an instrument of some kind. I approach piano and violin instruction from a foundational, constructive perspective, combined with building rapport and reciprocal clarifying communications. Essentially this means that the student and I interact to build understanding by using the familiar to grasp the unfamiliar. An example is: When teaching hand position, I use the natural position the student already has when the hand is relaxed to build the hand playing position. The student is encouraged to ask questions, to feel free to make mistakes in order to take the risks necessary for true understanding and growth, and to engage in productive discussion leading to personal clarity with regard to their playing. I, above all, want students to develop their own love and appreciation for music. I have high expectations in y studio, but I make it clear that students will progress at different speeds and that’s okay. Every week I give a set of warm-ups and exercises to focus on and expect students to practice so we can hone them when we’re together, but I’ll never ask a student to do something they’re not comfortable or familiar with - if ever there’s a question I’m there to answer or demonstrate. My teaching experience started when I became a choir Director in my church in 2000,I love to teach different harmonies for different vocal ranges plus I will teach them with the solfa notations which is the music notes.i remember some of the choristers where tone deaf but I always love to take it slow and steady with them eventually they all got better and I was fulfilled.its always fun and conducive in my classes because I always make it look easy and not stressful.i always tell my students that the only way you can be better is daily practice and dedication. I like playing games and playing through music with the student. I have flash cards, sometimes we play concentration, war, find it on the keyboard, spoons, relay races. We use gross motor skills, with big floor keyboard, dance, etc. Sometimes we do note speller things, technique learning from books. Sometimes I record them so they can see their own progress. We adjust, we just have fun.When they start spelling words with note names and are able to write and find them on the keyboard and on the staff, then we begin composing our own music. Read More
