I believe that a strong foundation is essential for steady progress and confident performance. A comprehensive approach is my preference. Therefore, when I teach piano, I prefer Faber and Faber Piano Adventures paired with A Dozen a Day for added technique. Since many students in this school district are in band or orchestra, I usually use Essential Elements for Strings, Brass, and Woodwinds. I spend a reasonable amount of time preparing my students for our recitals and many of them join in the group songs, which have included "What a Wonderful World", "Happy", and currently "The Theme From Midnight Cowboy". For beginning students, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements as I believe it the most comprehensive lesson guide for fundamentals. I do also on occasion utilize the Suzuki method for my string students in addition to EE. Every lesson begins with tuning and scales which helps train the ear and prepare students for the lesson at hand. From there we will go through the pieces as written. Once the student has a grasp of the fundamentals, we will begin to introducing solo pieces such as etudes and other popular music they may be into to keep them engaged. Read More

I strongly believe that fundamentals need to be the basis for learning. If students are not comfortable with basics such as posture, bow hold, and how to produce good tone, they will not be able to learn more advanced techniques. Because of that, I don't let students work on music that is too advanced for them. In our lessons, we will always work together to figure out each student's goals and a realistic plan to achieve them. Read More

In 1989, right after my Conservatory graduation I recieved a position as a Violin Senior Teacher at the Institute Of Arts in Chisinau Moldova (Former USSR). I taught for 5 years University students, then I moved with my Concert career and private teaching. Goals are an essential part of teaching. Students need something to work toward and I want those goals to be realistic and motivate the student to work towards them. Having a basic outline of a lesson plan is important and so is the flexibility to adjust it to fit the individual needs of the student.
