Instruments: Violin

My teaching style is flexible and aims to motivate the student to fall in love with playing and practicing on his or her own. At each lesson I will ask if there is something is particular that the student was troubled by during the previous week’s practicing and aim to solve that problem together. Eventually the student will learn how to problem solve during practicing. I encourage students to listen to many recordings of the works that they are learning to find inspiration. Read More

Instruments: Piano, Guitar, Violin, Cello, Viola, Recorder, Double Bass, Music, Keyboard, Classical Guitar, Acoustic Guitar

For beginning students, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements as I believe it the most comprehensive lesson guide for fundamentals. I do also on occasion utilize the Suzuki method for my string students in addition to EE. Every lesson begins with tuning and scales which helps train the ear and prepare students for the lesson at hand. From there we will go through the pieces as written. Once the student has a grasp of the fundamentals, we will begin to introducing solo pieces such as etudes and other popular music they may be into to keep them engaged. Read More

Instruments: Piano, Guitar, Voice, Violin, Cello, Viola

For my beginning students, I will typically teach out of the Sound Innovations methods books and incorporate certain lessons from other method books as well. After a foundation has been established, I will introduce solo repertoire and begin to work toward recitals and local competitions. I introduce concepts from a variety of composers, styles, and periods, but I also want to encourage the child's love for music so I take into account what things they have heard and possibly want to learn. Music is my gift. I am blessed with a natural ability which I have dedicated my life to learn, cultivate and nurture. To share this through teaching is rewarding. My introductory lesson is full of information to build a foundation on which further knowledge can stand. Read More

Instruments: Violin

I believe that no one system works for every student. My main focus in teaching is to find the best way for each student to learn and to enjoy playing. I know that if the student doesn't like their lessons, it makes it more difficult to learn and may lead to that student deciding they no longer want to play. In each lesson, we will work on as much technique as possible, but as long as students continue to learn and are motivated to play, I won't push them beyond what they are ready or willing to do. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
