I believe that no one system works for every student. My main focus in teaching is to find the best way for each student to learn and to enjoy playing. I know that if the student doesn't like their lessons, it makes it more difficult to learn and may lead to that student deciding they no longer want to play. In each lesson, we will work on as much technique as possible, but as long as students continue to learn and are motivated to play, I won't push them beyond what they are ready or willing to do. In 2017 after graduating, I decided to further my career in music by becoming an after-school instructor for Brevard County schools. I taught piano and guitar for students ages 5-13. Though my contract with the school had come to a close, my passion for teaching only grew. So I began giving private strings instruction, teaching cello, bass, guitar, violin, viola and piano. I began teaching professionally in the Bay Area about 30 years ago. I have taught in a variety of settings includings classes, group lessons, in music stores, for school districts, at students' homes and in my own private studio. Every person learns differently and I am highly skilled at detecting this and using it to my students' advantage. For my beginning students, I will typically teach out of the Sound Innovations methods books and incorporate certain lessons from other method books as well. After a foundation has been established, I will introduce solo repertoire and begin to work toward recitals and local competitions. I introduce concepts from a variety of composers, styles, and periods, but I also want to encourage the child's love for music so I take into account what things they have heard and possibly want to learn. For beginning students it's very important to develop their correct habits of posture, how to hold the violin, hands position, correct breathing. I moved them step by step, once the student has progressed with his technical skills, I will introduce him to the Solo repertoire according to his abilities, for his first recital concert. For the adult students, I think it's a good plan to ask them their goals, their thoughts and how much they think they will be able to practice. Read More
