For beginning students, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements as I believe it the most comprehensive lesson guide for fundamentals. I do also on occasion utilize the Suzuki method for my string students in addition to EE. Every lesson begins with tuning and scales which helps train the ear and prepare students for the lesson at hand. From there we will go through the pieces as written. My teaching experience started back in my College days. In 1989, right after my Conservatory graduation I recieved a position as a Violin Senior Teacher at the Institute Of Arts in Chisinau Moldova (Former USSR). I taught for 5 years University students, then I moved with my Concert career and private teaching. My goal is to help and  to teach all my  students to develop their musical abillities, their working skills, because no matter what profession they will choose in the future: musicians, doctors, sales person, or computer experts, they still have to learn how to work hard to reached their goals in life. Classical music is the base and foundation of all of the styles of music. My earliest teaching experience began in high school while teaching several middle school groups for the local zone concerts. I have taught several lesson plans in the Washoe County School district and successfully completed a 14 week internship teaching orchestra at Depoali MS and McQueen HS. Though I do not strictly follow the Suzuki method, which involves learning by ear, I often use the Suzuki books and incorporate elements of the method into lessons for students of all ages. This way, students can focus on learning to play violin without struggling to read music at the same time. Separating the two skills can help beginners pick up the instrument more quickly. I will always help students with note reading once they're ready but do not require they start at any particular stage. Read More
