I spent 2 years on the road with a musical theater tour company, performing various woodwinds in the pit orchestras for the musicals Flashdance, Elf, and Shrek, and I also spent 4 weeks on a holiday tour with MN-based pianist Lorie Line and her Pop Chamber Orchestra (playing 6 different woodwinds). I currently freelance in a variety of bands/styles around the Twin Cities, including the Twin Cities Latin Jazz Orchestra, Soul Shack, Machinery Hill, and the Brass Barn Polka Band, as well as in pit orchestras for various major local theaters. As a performer who was selected for All-State every year and performed as principal clarinet with the Jacksonville Youth Symphony Orchestra, I began teaching private lessons while I was still in high school. After high school, I attended Florida State University, where I performed as a soloist with the graduate Wind Orchestra at the Florida Music Educator's Conference in Tampa, performed with the Wind Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, and was principal clainet with the Florida Intercollegiate Band for two consecutive years. I do not have one style of teaching that I prefer to use with my students. I strive to make each lesson plan based on the student's individual needs, desires, and goals for their lesson time. I believe that this makes the material more attainable and more engaging. As I get to know my student's learning styles, I can adjust my plans to meet there different needs.
