As an educator, I strive for patience with students making a good effort. I recognize that certain skill sets will take time to develop, and I make sure that all students are doing the right things as they practice. Between lessons, I set a small list of achievable skills and practices for students to do. These lists are tailored for each individual to grow every week. I am a big fan of the Rubank elementary, intermediate, and advance methods. In addition I like incorporate sight reading into lessons due to being a common element in auditions. For high school students the I use Rubank books and supplement that with Rose etudes as they are often use as audition material in KY. We will also work out of Rubank's Elementary method book, which I require students to have, so they can practice out of. If students are in band or an ensemble, we can also work on pieces they are playing, as well as work towards solo repetoire if they wish to play in a recital. For adult beginners, I can cater towards what you wish to achieve. Intermediate students will focus more on solo repetoire and etudes, and will be required to bring Rubank's Intermediate Method. My teaching experience includes student teaching in college, for a semester, and substitute teaching for 16 months. While I was in the Marine Corps I would give lessons to students from different high schools when going on recruiting tours.
