My students get a strong base in theory, technique, and repertoire...usually focused on identified goals and outcomes. As students grow in ability and age, I engage their interests more so their instruction is more fulfilling. I use a unique approach to practice (I call the "nitty-gritty") with lots of fun (I call "music recreation") are techniques I use to keep students motivated. There is W-O-R-K to music. I began teaching percussion immediately after high school. While attending EKU, I helped my former high school by teaching the percussion section during the marching band season. I taught the section every year for about 12 years before being hired as a full-time teacher and becoming the assistant director of the band. I still mainly focus on the percussion section every year, but my responsibilities have spread to assisting with other sections of the band as well. Read More

For example, one of the rewards for consistent practice, learning songs, and listening to recordings is the opportunity to write a parody song. We listen to a few examples and analyze what makes them work. Read More

I love to see my students and friends have the courage to use their voice and express themselves. Music is a universal language and a gift that is meant to spread joy, love, and connection. Nothing is better than the feeling of being able to share that with other people. As your teacher I will be there to encourage and guide you along as you learn your instrument and voice at your own pace, because everyone is unique and on their own path. Read More
