Each one of my students receives highly individualized and personalized lesson plans. I work closely with the student (and/or their parent) to discuss their goals and aspirations for clarinet lessons. From these discussions I will develop personalized lesson plans to help them reach their goals. In all of my lessons I emphasize the use of fundamentals to develop technique. I am a passionate instructor with high energy who loves working with beginning to advanced students. In 2011, I graduated from Indiana University Fort Wayne with a Bachelor of Music Education. Although education and teaching was my focus, I excelled in music performance as well. I have performed across the Midwest with the Premiere Wind Ensemble from my university and have had the privilege to perform professionally with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic. Read More

I began teaching back in my sophomore year of high school when one of my friends wanted to learn how to play the piano. I gave them half hour lessons once a week and tailored my teaching to fit what techniques they wanted to learn. After that, I began branching out and teaching other friends, and eventually found myself helping out the middle school bands during my study hall. Now that I am in college, my own playing has improved and I have found new ways to connect and teach students whether that be in person, or by using technology such as skype. Read More

Over the past thirteen years, I have taught nearly 400 students - beginning as a junior in high school with four pianists. My teaching experiences have ranged from group lessons with fourth-grade, beginner clarinetists and saxophonists, to starting brand new five-year old pianists, to preparing high schoolers for competitive auditions and performances, to substitute lessons with adults. I actively seek to have my students play for people whenever they can (i.e. church, family gatherings), and I seek out and arrange more formal and organized events such as recitals or visiting the elderly and performing at retirement villages and nursing homes. I always ask the student to find music that they like listening to, and I work this into the material they are learning. Even if the instrument they play is not a part of that music, listening to music critically will help them develop a concept for sound and an ear for musicality.
