My teaching experience began a long time ago, back when I had played guitar and other instruments for only some period of time. From showing licks and musical parts to other players to giving short lessons to friends and family members looking to learn. I have always enjoyed teaching music on all levels whether it's casual or serious! I technically started teaching lessons a few months ago to a family friend who has showed progressive advancement much to my surprise. Read More

For my beginning students I like to start with multiple methods such as simple tabs to teach string use, what I like to call as power chord theory with simple power chord knowledge. I do this because you don't have to worry about major, minor, augmented, or diminished when power chords. I can go ahead start basic theory lessons on this. I also have another where I teach open chords and eventually all my beginning students will get all these lessons before I move on to scales and the 7 positions or as they say modes of each scale. For piano students: I typically like to use the Faber and Faber Piano Adventure lesson series with beginning and early-intermediate students. During the first lesson I provide to the student, I like to assess the ability level of the individual student to determine the book I believe it is most appropriate in which to begin. Typically, if a student is a beginner, I will start with the "My First Piano Adventure" with students aged 4-6 years of age, the "Basic Piano Adventures" series with students aged 7-9 years of age, the "Accelerated Piano Adventures" series with students aged 11-15 years of age, and the "Adult Piano Adventures" series with students aged 16+. With a teacher-mom, I believe my teaching experience started as soon as I could wrangle the attention of my little sister or stuffed animals. Officially I did some tutoring and a pre-teacher program in high school, along with some volunteering at after school programs. I also tutored and taught private lessons while in college. In my student teaching semester, I taught P-12 music classes including band and music appreciation. After college I spent ten years with a Christian camping organization where I taught as well.
