I believe every person's needs are different making the books and pieces that I recommend different for each student. But, teaching materials in my studio include etude and study books, exercises written by myself to target specific needs and standard solo repertoire that I believe every saxophone or clarinetist should play. Students will also be requested to keep a journal either electronically or on paper with short notes about practice sessions from each day, to help guide goals and instruction in each lesson. I believe that there is no one method you can use for every student. Method books can be useful but I try not to rely on them because I always found them boring if overused. I try to build lessons around styles of music that the student is interested in. It's always a balancing act trying to find the music for each student. The trick is to find music that is challenging enough for them to learn from playing it, interesting enough for them to want to pick their instrument up and practice, but not too challenging that they'll get frustrated with it.
