I love to see students learn to love music. When I first meet the student I do a quick assessment(ask about 5 questions) to see what the student may already know. After the assessment I work on the skills the student needs to work on. I always give positive feedback. For instance "you got this right, and you are doing well at it, lets focus on this skill now." My teaching style includes positive reinforcement, making and achieving small measurable goals that lead to big measurable goals, and teaching and instilling correct daily practice methods. I encourage each student to do their best each day and push through the difficult places. When something is too difficult for a student, I break it down into smaller, more understandable pieces, or change tactics to a different subject or piece. I use many resources and try to differentiate activities to keep students engaged and learning. Read More

I do request they practice a minimum of 30 minutes per day, 5 days a week. Also, I spend at least an hour preparing for a one hour lesson. At the end of each lesson I critique the progress, and give the student, and its parent a written copy of the critique, as well a written lesson plan for the upcoming week. In this way everyone involved is well informed as to what has transpired and what is desired in the next week. Read More

I have been selected and performed in multiple honor bands across my time in middle and high school, including Troy University's honor band and All State. Read More

I focus on a skills based learning regimen. I often start beginners out without using a book, just learning to make the instrument perform before we add the complexities of music notation to the mix. With more advanced students I work on the small details of mastering the instrument, and translate that into performance. I favor method books that drill the student in those details, and add solo material for variety and to introduce different performance styles. Read More
