Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

I do my best to be a relaxed, grounded teacher who reminds the student to relax and enjoy the process of making music. I do listening exercises, clapping, counting, reciting the letters of the notes with their voice, and demonstrate the songs they are learning to each student. When considering texts and books for students, I believe that Hal Leonard texts are a standard and acceptable form of teaching. For students who may have personalized needs, there are accompanying tools that can be of use, and I try to use those as necessary. Beginning with any student at any level, I first try to engage with them on a purely audio level. By interacting with their instrument from a simply aural perspective, I can get a sense of how they respond to sound; for example, how they attempt to find patterns on a keyboard, or how responsive they are to consonance against dissonance. I strive to be a balanced teacher that engages the students musical interests while also setting a high (but patient) bar for technical facility and discipline. As someone who has received classical and jazz training, I love to be able to provide students those dual/complimentary curriculum tracks, and, for those students that are eager to dig in to the theory side of things, connect the dots between.
