Instruments: Voice, Saxophone, Clarinet

I like to use a wide variety of materials, from classical to jazz music.  CLARINET: For clarinet students, I use "standard" conservatory etude and scale books (such as the Rose Studies and Behrmann Studies).  I also use the Jamey Abersold Jazz Methods, which feature CD 'play-a-long' recordings of jazz music.  I also have my students perform a wide range of solo music, from 'standards' like the Mozart Clarinet Concerto to 20th century repertoire by composers like Bernstein, Copland and others.  I think it is important for students to be able to play jazz and improvise, so I teach them about Blues and how to play jazz, as well as classical music. Instruments: Trumpet, Trombone, Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet, Euphonium, French Horn, Tuba

I have come to learn that all students learn in their own unique way and at their own pace. As a teacher, it is my responsibility to identify these unique traits, encourage their strengths and improve their weaknesses. I also make sure they are learning what they want to learn, but more importantly, teach them what they need to learn to continuously excel musically. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Read More

This way, students experience fewer setbacks and gain confidence quickly. With experienced students, I focus more on playing with emotion and musicianship, starting with musical elements like dynamics, articulation, and air support. I also encourage practicing slowly with a metronome, allowing the body to learn music without the stress of failure. Read More
