It's obviously important that each student progresses in their playing as well as their understanding of music. A method I use is knows as PSP (Praise, Suggest, Praise). Hi y'all! I'm a saxophonist, clarinetist, and composer in the East Atlanta metro area. I love teaching and have maintained a private studio since 2018. My loves for performance and composition led me to get two Bachelors degrees in Saxophone Performance and Composition from the University of Georgia in 2023. For students of all ages, I like to lead with the quote from Marcel Moyse; "Practicing is a matter a time, patience and intelligent work", for I believe that once this is applied to the idea of practicing and general encounters with ones instrument, then success and progress is guaranteed. Aside from that principle, I like the idea of independent work from students to keep them accountable on the journey to becoming a musician but a more interactive and demonstrative approach during the lesson to give students an idea of what needs to be done while being that good role model so that they may keep motivated work hard at becoming the best possible musicians. I encourage my students, whether private or the ones that I teach a school to practice on a consistent basis (have a consistent schedule for practice) because it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument or their voice. I've also found that a combination of different musical genres helps to motivate a student and allow them to have fun. I also encourage my students to enter competitions and recitals to give them a way of measuring where they are in comparison to others. Read More
