After graduating at the music department, the Dean of Music recommended me for the music tutoring position at Valencia College and I taught under that position for one full school year. I have been professional musician and a private teacher form many years. Ive travel the world playing Jazz, Broadway shows, Latin Music, Tango, Rock Pop. I have worked for 15 years in a Big Band that performed educational concerts and brought live performances and exposure to musical instruments to kinder gardens elementary middle and high schools that sometimes did not have the luxury of a music program. When I teach, I always make sure that I present new concepts and ideas in a digestible way. I also make sure my student and I are always on the same page with their goals and their playing. If my students don't understand something or feel like they're in over their head, I don't rush them to figure it out. Backtracking is always seen as a positive thing. Once these become ingrained in the student's mind, I will introduce various excerpts based on their skill level, eventually working our way into solo repertoire. For students that have a few years under their belt, I prefer to get a grasp on what their strength and weaknesses are to assess what I can be of service, to select the solo or excerpt book that would best help improve their already developing talents.
